These are great - and I love how they last so long too!! I would use them at the county fair, when we go camping, any where we go with a large amount of people!!

Safety Tat - A Review and Giveaway

I've been a fan of Safety Tat since I first found out about them last August. My girls love to wear them, they are cute and fun and they give me a little piece of mind. Recently Safety Tat came out with new designs in their Quick Stick Write-On tats:

Super cute, yes? We received a 3-pak to try and the girls were super excited to use them. Brenna chose to put hers on her arm while Caelan decided hers should go on her leg.



Here's a closer look (I probably shouldn't have put my phone number on them- it kind of loses the effect with it pixelated. But the designs are cute.)

Safety Tats are very easy to put on. Unlike regular temporary tattoos they do not require water; you simply press them on the skin. Once they are on you write your information.

Temporary Tattoos for Safety

Because my girls are still quite young we always have their Harness Buddie on them every time we venture out someplace crowded. But I know the day will come when that soft, friendly leash will no longer be fun to wear and they will venture out without it.

Because getting separated from mom & dad is a scary experience even the most meticulous memorization may fail just when your child needs it most- to contact you if they get lost.

A good idea is to write your phone number on their arm. A great idea is to get these oh-so-cool temporary tattoos with your information on them. What kid doesn't love a temporary tattoo?

Snack & Play Travel Tray

I was contacted not long ago by Family Travel Gear, a company that specializes in products for people traveling with kids, and asked to review their products and services. Of course I was quite flattered- who doesn't like to try stuff?

I spent quite a lot of time perusing their website, which is very user friendly. You can easily find just what you are searching for with their categories by person, trip or item. As I looked through their travel items I was impressed by not only the large selection but also the fact that they have everything from games and books to GPS systems.

I chose to try their Snack & Play Travel Tray as we were preparing for a rather long car trip. I was immediately attracted to this tray over similar items because it has a foam base which is sturdy enough for drawing or eating but will not injure the child in case of an accident.

The tray itself can attach around a car seat, stroller or the child so it does not have to be steadied on the lap (therefore avoiding being dropped numerous times which may be a fun game for your little ones but not so much for you). There are big mesh pockets on both sides to hold crayons and small coloring books, toys or drinks. It also has foam sides to keep everything on the tray, which is great for on-the-go snacking. And since the tray is nylon it is easy to clean.

Brenna, age 3 1/2 really enjoyed the tray for drawing and other activities.

Caelan, our 1 1/2 year old, liked it best to keep her snacks from escaping.

Although they don't mention using this tray for air travel I am going to. If you use a car seat on an airplane (which I recommend if your child is under 2 and you are taking a long flight) this will come in very handy as the seat back trays will not fold flat over your child's lap if they are in a carseat. This makes it very difficult when it is time to eat. I really wish we had this product when we flew to Ireland. (It would have also been really handy during all the driving we did over there.)

Family First Aid Checklist

We are beginning to prepare for our Irish holiday and I am deep in lists. What to carry on, what to check, what to send ahead. I like to make sure we are prepared- often we are over prepared.

I came across this family first aid checklist from The Family Sabbatical Handbook by Elisa Bernick that is quite thorough. Obviously you won't need everything on this list for a short vacation, but it is a great list and certainly has items on it that I wouldn't have thought of.

You can purchase ready-made first-aid kits from any camping or medical supplier online. A cheaper option is to buy a soft-sided multi-zippered storage bag and put one together yourself. Include:

• Sterile gauze pads.

• Bandages/Band-Aids in a variety of sizes.

• Adhesive tape.

• Sterile cotton balls.

• Antibacterial hand wipes.

• Small jar of Vaseline.

• Scissors, tweezers, safety pins, Swiss Army knife.

• Digital thermometer.

• Small cold pack.

• Anti-itch cream such as hydrocortisone or calamine.

• Antibiotic cream or ointment.

• Syrup of ipecac.

• Aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen (adults' and children's).

• Cold tablets.

• Cough syrup, throat lozenges (adults' and children's).

• Antihistamine (Benadryl oral and ointment).

• Diarrhea medicine (adults' and children's).

• Sunscreen, lip balm, insect repellent.

•Vaginal cream for infections.

• Spoon/oral syringe to administer kids' doses.

• Moleskin for blisters.

• Inhalers, special medications, etc.

• Any other specific over-the-counter medication that your doctor or pharmacist recommends for your sabbatical destination.

• Emergency medical reference book.

Optional:

• Antibiotics such as amoxicyllin.

• Louse treatment.

• Pinworm treatment.

• Rehydration mixture.

• Lotrimin (or other clotrimazole- or miconazole-based) anti-fungal.

Tip: Do not pack your first-aid kit in your carry-on luggage if you fly. Airports keep changing their carry-on restrictions, and you might not be able to take it aboard.

I am a big believer in mailing items to your destination (if you are flying) before you arrive. A first aid kit is just the kind of item I am referring to. These are items you won't need until you arrive- and hopefully not even then!
